Wrist Size Chart

Your wrist measurement is the starting point for buying bracelets, bangles and watches, and it is also used to estimate body frame size. Enter your wrist circumference — or measure it with the printable sizer — and see your bracelet size for a snug, comfortable or loose fit, a bangle size based on your hand, a sensible watch case size, and whether your frame counts as small, medium or large.

How to measure your wrist

  1. Use a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper or string and a ruler (or print the wrist sizer from the pack).
  2. Wrap it around your wrist just below the wrist bone, where a bracelet or watch sits.
  3. Keep it snug but not tight — you should be able to slide a finger under it.
  4. Mark where it meets, then read the measurement.
  5. Measure twice, and measure your dominant hand too; it is often slightly larger.

Wrists can swell slightly in hot weather and later in the day, so measure in normal conditions.

These allowances are common jewellery guidance. Thick chains, beaded bracelets and cuffs need more room than fine chains, because the bracelet’s own thickness reduces the space inside.

Bangles: measure your hand, not your wrist

A bangle has no clasp, so it must slip over the widest part of your hand. Bring your thumb in towards your little finger as if putting on a bangle, and measure across the knuckles at the widest point. Doubling this width gives an approximate inner circumference; dividing that by π gives the inner diameter used in many bangle size charts. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.

Watch case size

WristCase diameter that usually suits
Under 6 in (15 cm)32–36 mm
6–6.5 in (15–16.5 cm)34–38 mm
6.5–7 in (16.5–18 cm)38–42 mm
7–7.5 in (18–19 cm)40–44 mm
7.5–8 in (19–20 cm)42–46 mm
Over 8 in (20 cm)44 mm and up

This is a style guide, not a rule — lug-to-lug length matters as much as diameter. A watch generally looks balanced when its lugs don’t hang past the edges of your wrist.

This widely used table appears in the US National Library of Medicine’s MedlinePlus encyclopedia. Frame size is a rough guide sometimes used alongside weight charts; it is not a diagnosis or a measure of health.

Worked example

A woman who is 5′5″ (65 in) tall measures her wrist at 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). For a comfortable bracelet she adds ¾ inch, so she looks for a 7.25-inch (18.4 cm) bracelet — a size L in the tool’s sizing, though brands vary. Her knuckles measure 3.3 inches across with the thumb tucked in, so a bangle with an inner circumference of about 6.6 inches (inner diameter about 2.1 in or 53 mm) should slip on. A 38–42 mm watch will suit her wrist, and by the frame-size table she has a large frame for her height.

Common sizing mistakes

Charm and beaded bracelets

Charm bracelets need extra length because charms take up space on the inside of the chain; many people add about an inch to the wrist measurement once several charms are added. Stretch bead bracelets are usually sold by inner circumference: add about half an inch for small beads and more for large ones.

Printable wrist sizer

The pack includes a printable paper wrist sizer. Print it at 100% (check the 1-inch test square with a ruler), cut it out, wrap it around your wrist and read your size where the end meets the scale.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure my wrist size?

Wrap a tape or paper strip just below the wrist bone, snug but not tight, and read the measurement.

What size bracelet do I need?

Add about ½ in for a snug fit, ¾ in for comfort or 1 in for a loose fit.

What is an average wrist size?

Wrist sizes vary widely between people; measure your own rather than relying on an average.

How do I find my bangle size?

Measure across the knuckles with your thumb tucked in; the inner circumference is about twice that width.

What watch size suits a 7-inch wrist?

Usually around 40–44 mm, depending on lug length and style.

How is body frame size calculated?

By comparing wrist circumference with height using a standard table.
